The Invention of wings

I have wanted to read this novel with others for a long time so I am excited to share that our next book is by one of my favorite authors, Sue Monk Kidd. Ok - I have several favorite authors but that is beside the point. 

The Invention of Wings is historical fiction set primarily in Charleston, South Carolina during the 1800s. We follow the lives of Sarah Grimke and Hetty (a.k.a. 1. How might a person's sense of identity be shaped or challenged by the environment and expectations in which they grow up?
2. How might a true friendship offer both comfort and challenge when friends come from very different backgrounds, such as social class or race?
