Our first session was June 30 and in preparation, we all read The Midnight Library, by Matt Haig. The book gave us much to discuss and we did just that throughout the evening. We had five focus questions each facilitated by members of our fun group. The conversations were powerful, intimate, and enlightening. It was exactly as I envisioned and it made me so happy to be a part of such a special evening.
OK, the official name of the recipe is Crazy Cookie Dough by Irish Pastry Chef, Gemma Stafford. I love using this recipe because you make the exact cookie that makes you happy. Our main character, Nora, searched and searched for the life that would truly make her happy - for us, it was much easier with cookies!
We gathered around the kitchen island and made Gemma Stafford's base crazy cookie dough. Then, everyone brought the mix-in ingredient that they loved in a cookie. The dough was portioned out and we got creative with our mix-ins! My big blunder was to fail to take photos of our masterpieces....they looked and tasted delicious!
We covered a couple of Gemma's tips, too. 1. Age your cookie dough! Wrap the prepared dough in plastic wrap and pop into the fridge for at least an hour - or two days. We used dough that I aged for about 24 hours, and chilled the batch we made that evening. 2. Bang the pan. When the cookies come out of the oven, give the pan a thwack on the counter. This helps the cookies "fall and settle leaving lovely ripples and cracks in your cookie".
How blessed am I to have friend (avid reader and eater!) Nicole Brown join in the fun? Nicole, along with three other medical professionals, has recently co-founded and opened a new MedSpa called Embolden MedSpa. Nicole shared the aesthetic, health, and wellness services she and her team provide at Embolden. She also brought along a few goodies to highlight their concierge services too. I loved seeing people making new connections!
What a hoot! Our gals got a bit silly with the open air photo booth provided by Mark Beecher/Grapevine Productions.
We loved the book so much we just had to show our excitement!
